Gen. Valery Zaluzhnyy, commander in chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, had an interview with the Economist, published on October 1st. He said there would be no breakthrough the Russian defenses without more advanced weaponry. He also said he had formerly believed that after Russia’s 150,000 casualties the Russians would withdraw. He feels remorse for that assessment, realizing now Vlad Putin doesn’t really care how many bodies he throws at Ukraine.
With winter settling in it’s no surprise the pace of battle will probably slow.
The Battle for Adviivka has been going on since the Russian invasion. Russian troops have not managed to take the city despite heavy casualties. Since Oct 26th they have suffered approximately 2,800 casualties and lost over 100 tanks and 250 armored vehicles. There has been a lull in the battle over the past 24 hours. Some think the Russians are regrouping for yet another attempt. WIkipedia
His statements have fed the debate among the pretend patriots on the alt right who want to discontinue US aid to Ukraine (Politico). The truth is if Biden hadn’t have supported Ukraine, along with our NATO allies, these same guys would have been accusing him of letting Russia take over.
In related news, Putin lapdog Dmitry Medvedev threatened Poland today. He said Poland might lose it’s statehood and is now considered a “dangerous enemy” of the Russian Federation.
“We will treat it (Poland) precisely as a historical enemy,” Medvedev said. “If there is no hope for reconciliation with the enemy, Russia should have only one and a very tough attitude regarding its fate.” Reuters
Poland is a NATO ally. Warsaw is 694 miles from Zaphorizhzhya. Their support for Ukraine, as with the other NATO members, is justified and prudent. Putin, Trump and their gods have sites set on the dismemberment of NATO. Our alliance is only as good as our determination to stick together and with our principles.
We can’t afford to let Hamas distract our nation from it’s shared goals and the security of NATO. Timing
