GOP front runner Donald Trump speaking at a Christian Media Convention stated it would be “crazy” for a Christian to vote democrat during the 2024 elections. “How any Christian can vote for a Democrat, Christian or person of faith, person of faith — how you can vote for a Democrat is crazy. It’s crazy,” he said (The Hill). He didn’t say this at a GOP debate because he hasn’t attended any.
One might find it odd that a former friend of Jeffrey Epstein would make such a statement. Most Americans don’t consider Trump to be religious according to Pew Research Center poll in 2020. His “grab em by the pussy” comment in 2016 didn’t come across as a particularly Christian statement either (Vox). He could have sought forgiveness and these acts don’t necessarily make him an anti-Christ.
In October of 2020 Trump declared he considered himself a non-denominational Christian and no longer a Presbyterian. He was the first president since Eisenhower to do so in office.
Our nation is a secular state; at the time of it’s foundation a rarity. The founding fathers were men of the enlightenment age. The colonists were sick of the King and his Church of England. Settlers had been coming to the New World seeking refuge from religious persecution. These included a variety of Protestants. The idea of religious tolerance was expanded giving freedom of religion, or lack thereof, in the 1st Amendment to the Bill of Rights. Religious freedom, in the historical perspective, is an amazing thing; fostering an environment where people of all religious affiliations should be able to work together.
This is why Trump’s support of Vladimir Putin and his imperialistic ambitions in the Baltic States throws up a red flag. Putin was a KGB agent working for the Soviet Union where religion was strictly illegal. During his time as an agent he provided material support to the Red Army Faction bent on destroying religious freedom in the true Marxist <<sense. He also provided support to Black September, the Palestinian group behind the Munich Olympics Massacre (Business Insider).
