Protesting in the Modern Era

On January 7, 2021 a bunch of ill advised Trumpites decided to attack the White House to force their opinion on who should be president on the rest of US society. Part of having a democracy is that the majority gets to decide who that person should be; at least sort of if you consider the electoral college. I’m thinking most of them missed, or forgot, those civic courses.

Taking over the White House does not mean taking over the country of course. The main mission of the police and guards was to protect the politicians and staff members, not defend the building. The malcontents went inside and were caught on camera. It took months to arrest them all. Why?

Tracking their activities, figuring out who they are, and who they associate with, is more valuable than immediately arresting them.

In 2020, while Donald Trump was still president, there were mass protests to bring attention to the murder of George Floyd and other blacks killed by white police. The protest took on a life of it’s own in Portland Oregon. They kept going long after everyone else had stopped.

Attorney General William Barr sent federal agents to quell the protests in Portland. Many of these agents were not trained in riot control (The Hill). Agents were detaining people in the streets, taking their personal information, and then releasing them (Huffington Post). Why?

Tracking their activities, figuring out who they are, and who they associate with, is more valuable than immediately arresting them.

Trump encouraged, even created, with the assistance of his gods, the Jan 7 protests; sucked them right in. It’s the same strategy his AG used with the protesters in Portland. But wait, you might say, the Portland protesters were leftists, the DC protesters right wingers. The answer lies in what they have in common.

Any attempt to create chaos or incite violence will give the fascist giants the excuse to get what they are after; you.
