Shootings in Gaza

On July 7 2025 there were stories in the news about a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) contractor turned whistleblower. According to him a fellow contractor fired upon a group of Palestinians and killed a man.

Former GHF security guard: “When this guy was shooting into this group, this man dropped to the ground and was motionless. Then the other contractor who was standing there was like, ‘Damn, I think you got one,’ and then they laughed about it.” Democracy Now

Since that time we have bombarded with the news of a (different or the same?) GHF contractor, Lt Col Anthony Aguilera. He claims the IDF was shooting Palestinian aid seekers.

The IDF has maintained that soldiers only use their guns to deliver warning shots for unruly crowds. But Aguilar said that officers attacked civilians with tank rounds, mortars and fully automatic weapons with at least 210 rounds each of green-tipped, armor-piercing ammunition designed to kill. Statements from UG Solutions, working with the GHF claim that Aguilera was fired from a leadership position due to erratic behavior before making these claims (ghf.org).

The IDF has called the news stories of shootings at aid sites into question. They report that Hamas has fired upon aid seekers on their way to, and at, aid distribution sites. The IDF released a video of a Palestinian shooting at others at an aid site. They claim the man was a Hamas agent discouraging people from receiving aid not under their control (New York Post).

The IDF recently said it reorganized a GHF site with new fencing, signage and entry routes. And both Israel and the GHF blame Hamas and point to these videos that the Israeli military says depict Hamas shaking down Palestinians after receiving GHF aid and enjoying food while the people starve. And they say violence at GHF sites is Hamas-instigated and GHF contractors act responsibly, despite threats. PBS Newshour

Since the beginning of the conflict the IDF has complained that aid was being delivered through Hamas. They say Hamas hordes food and decides who and who doesn’t receive it; after they feed their own soldiers.

There are groups in Gaza who oppose Hamas rule. The Israelis have been arming them. This story broke in June but no one has said for how long they have been backed by the IDF (NPR). It would make no sense for the IDF to fire upon Gazans and risk losing support of Palestinians opposed to Hamas.

The questions are; Is Aguilera the original whistleblower making his story bigger or were there some bad eggs in the GHF firing upon Palestinians and sabotaging the aid mission?
