There have been some extremely wealthy businessmen buying up US media, and the press with it. 6 Corporations control 90% of the media in the US. Elon Musk bought Twitter and turned it into X because he felt the platform leaned too far left. Recently Larry Ellison bought Paramount Global (NY Post) and appointed his son David as CEO.
Paramount is one of the 6 major companies referred to above. Among other holdings it controls CBS News.

Now Ellison is financially backing his son’s purchase of Warner Brothers Discovery, another of the 6 corporations that control most of US media (Business Insider).

A socialist country would have 1 state owned media company controlled by their one party oligarchy. I guess having 5 is a little better.
