Ukraine parliament accepted the resignation of prime minister Yulia Svyrydenko. The next day president Volodymyr Zelenksyy fired minister of defense Mykhailo Fedorovo. No reason was given. Media reports linked Fedorov’s removal to his conflict with the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Exactly a year after being named Prime Minister, Svyrydenko submitted her resignation which was accepted by the Verkhovna Rada. People’s Deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko stated “No one can even explain exactly why” with Reuters suggesting it had to do with failing to clean house following a corruption scandal. Fedorovo has risen to rock star status in Ukraine. He has gained credit for successful drone warfare actions against Russia making him quite popular. He has now called for elections to take Zelenskyy’s place (Euronews).
Fedorovo made a bid to elevate himself and risk strife in his nation. They are at war, defending themselves from Vladimir Putin‘s imperialist ambitions. Now is not the time for who’s got the bigger dick, now is the time for unity in the face of an aggressive foe. Zelenskyy’s decision to fire Fedorovo, in lieu of his power grabbing tendencies, was a good one.
We may never know why Fedorovo was forced out because Zelenskyy is more concerned about unity than dragging anyone’s name through the mud.
Now it seems, Fedorovo is leveraging his relationship with Elon Musk with the help of Donald Trump. Fedorovo was instrumental in getting Musk to stop Russia’s use of Starlink. Talks are still ongoing but Musk is refusing to allow Ukraine to use Starlink to target Russian mobile launchers.
