Meanwhile in Russia

President for Life Vladimir Putin just signed a new law allowing him to run for two more terms (CNN). I guess the Russians don’t take the rule of law that seriously, they keep changing theirs to benefit one guy. He’s been the president of the Russian Federation since 1999 with the exception of the years 2008 – 2012. During those years he was the Prime Minister. Dimitry Medvedev, his Prime Minister, was the President instead. Switching roles with his 2nd in command was too bothersome.

The Russians are amassing troops on the border with the Ukraine (NY Post). Having annexed the Crimea in 2014, Western officials are concerned about Putin conducting another land grab. Like a previous incursion into Odessa, the Western response to the Crimean invasion was noticeably mild.

President Biden has pledged unwavering support from the US in the current standoff with Russia (Reuters).
