Alan Turing (23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) was a British mathematician and cryptographer. He is credited with the first computer, the Turing Machine, developed to break German codes during World War II. He is also known for his work in a little known field of biology; morphogenesis. Turing’s work was kept from the public under the Official Secrets Act.

Turing was a homosexual. When this became known (1952) he was prosecuted for indecency and sentenced to chemical castration. He died two years later at the age of 42, from cyanide poisoning. This was ruled a suicide but many believed he was intentionally poisoned.

John Hinckley Jr (May 29, 1955 – present) is a man who attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan in 1981. He had lifelong psychological problems and developed an infatuation with actress Jodie Foster. He was also infatuated with the novel The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. According to psychologists he wanted to commit an notorious act to gain the attention of Foster.

Hinckley’s attack wounded two officers and press secretary James Brady who was left partially paralyzed. This case caused changes to the insanity plea and spawned the Brady Handgun Violence Protection Act; gun control legislation. An attempt to get the right wing to support gun control?
