The illegally formed Department of Government Efficiency run by US President again Donald Trump‘s lapdog and billionaire Elon Musk wants access to sensitive personal data on US citizens held in the IRS database (CNN).
Democratic Senators Ron Wyden of Oregon and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have asked the IRS commissioner to provide details on the DOGE request. They explained that these prohibitions have historically safeguarded against political appointees in previous administrations gaining access to the private tax records of millions of Americans.
There is the potential for abuse of this data, particularly by businessmen that government regulatory departments are responsible for monitoring. This is because businessmen and women can’t always be trusted. Trump and his billionaire buddies gutting the government of it’s lawful capabilities to keep big business from screwing the citizenry out of their hard earned cash is one thing. Letting them data mine all of the citizen’s personal data is another.
It’s time for Congress to step up and reign in, if not abolish, Trump and Musk’s DOGE.
