Trump Talks with Iran

US President for Life Hopeful Donald Trump‘s administration is entering talks with representatives of the Iranian Theocracy to negotiate yet another nuclear weapons pact (Axios). Generally these have been agreements to assist in the development of Iran’s nuclear power program in exchange for not developing nuclear weapons. Iranian promises to allow nuclear inspectors to check for weapons development have always been stymied by a lack of cooperation. Every deal the Theocracy has entered into they have violated UANI

Overshadowing these talks are an ongoing protest movement by people unhappy with the death of a young Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini who was beaten to death by Iranian religious police for not wearing her hijab properly in September of 2022. On the anniversaries of her death women have appeared in public without hijabs in defiance of the Iranian policy. Iranian police have jailed people, particularly in Kurdish towns, during these gatherings.

There are also militant groups operating within Iran seeking to overthrow the government of Ayatollah Kahmenei. Generally their attacks are blamed by the government on Israel as a way to minimize any political effect the groups may capitalize on; a boost in membership or popularity.

Jamshid Sharmahd was an Iranian journalist with German American citizenship who was taken captive by Iranian agents while in the United Arab Emirates in 2020. He was taken to Tehran and tried and sentenced to death in 2023 for endangering Iranian national security. His body was returned to Germany on April 11, 2025. He was missing all of his teeth except two. His tongue, larynx, heart and thyroid were removed. It was claimed he died in prison while awaiting execution. An autopsy for poison would require the organs removed to be examined. Sharmahd’s daughter has called upon the Trump administration to abandon nuclear talks and arrest Iranian officials (Fox News).

Iranian missile attacks in October of 2024 demonstrate their will to attack Israel is a viable threat. Their Houthi proxies have been launching Iranian made missiles at random ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea (Wikipedia). They have also launched missiles into Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

The question; will Trump extend the life of the Iranian Theocratic regime with a face saving nuclear treaty the Iranians will violate anyway? Or, will he reach a substantial permanent agreement with Iran to stop their nuclear weapons program that no one before has done successfully?
