The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit was arrested and charged with 32 crimes. Marius Hoiby was Mette-Marit’s son before her marriage into the royal family and is a commoner. The crimes he is accused of included sexual assault and rape (CBSNews). Some of the rape charges were dropped by Norwegian police due to problems with statutes of limitations and evidence but he is under suspicion for others (BBC).

Crown Prince Haakon’s marriage to the commoner Mette-Marit was looked down upon by many Norwegians. Her friendship with Jeffrey Epstein also caused controversy.

Norway has been the target of intimidation by Vladimir Putin‘s Russian government for decades. In February Norwegian intelligence said it was likely Russia would launch sabotage efforts at their energy infrastructure in 2025 (The Defense Post).
