The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit was convicted of two of the four rape charges he faced and sentenced to four years in prison. Marius Hoiby was Mette-Marit’s son before her marriage into the royal family and is a commoner. He was indicted on 32 counts including sexual assault and rape (The Independent).
Crown Prince Haakon’s marriage to the commoner Mette-Marit was looked down upon by many Norwegians. Her friendship with Jeffrey Epstein also caused controversy.
Norway has been the target of intimidation by Vladimir Putin‘s Russian government for decades. In February Norwegian intelligence said it was likely Russia would launch sabotage efforts at their energy infrastructure in 2025 (The Defense Post).
