US Supreme Leader Donald Trump has threatened Iranian Supreme Leader Motjaba Khamenei with strikes against bridges and power plants (CNN). Trump says he will hit one every time Iran strikes a ship. There’s a couple of problems with this strategy.
Hitting infrastructure used by Iranian civilians will further discourage anti regime dissenters. Internal dissenters are the threat tyrants fear the most. US strikes should be against military targets. US strikes against Venezuelan drug boats are what stopped the protests against the Chavistas for the nullified elections in 2024.
There is also a question; why hasn’t the US military eliminated Iran’s capability to strike ships in the Straits of Hormuz? Is it possible Trump is helping the Iranian regime stay in power by taking the wind out of the sails of the anti regime protests without causing too much damage to the Iranian military machine?
