Nikolaus (Klaus) Barbie (25 October 1913 – 25 September 1991) known as the “Butcher of Lyon” was the Gestapo Cheif in Lyon during the Nazi occupation. Barbie was infamous for his personal torture sessions on Jews and members of the French Resistance including Jean Moulin.
After the war, United States intelligence services employed him for his anti-communist efforts and aided his escape to Bolivia, where he advised the dictatorial regime on how to repress opposition through torture. In 1983, the United States apologised to France for the U.S. Counterintelligence Corps helping him escape to Bolivia, aiding Barbie’s escape from an outstanding arrest warrant. WIkipedia
West German Intelligence found out he was in Bolivia so they recruited him. Barbie is suspected of having had a role in the Bolivian coup d’état orchestrated by Luis García Meza in 1980. In 1983 he was arrested and extradited to France. He spent the rest of his life in the prison in Lyon he used while serving as the Gestapo Chief.
Charles James Kirk (October 14, 1993 – September 10, 2025) was an American right wing influencer who hosted the humbly named Charlie Kirk Show. Kirk co founded and was the director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). TPUSA is an American nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses.
At the 2012 Republican National Convention, Kirk met Foster Friess, a Republican donor, and persuaded him to finance the (TPU) organization. Friess also served on the organization’s advisory council, alongside Ginni Thomas, wife of U.S. Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas. Barry Russell, president and CEO of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), is a key advisor. Between July 2016 and June 2017, the organization raised in excess of US$8.2 million. The same year, leaked records found that the group had funnelled “thousands of dollars” into student governments to elect conservatives. Under Kirk’s leadership, TPUSA developed several affiliate groups, including Turning Point Action and Turning Point Faith, with the latter aimed at mobilizing religious communities around conservative issues. Initially critical of the evangelical right, Kirk later shifted to Christian nationalism, advocating a Christian form of government.
Kirk was assassinated on September 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University for an event on the TPUSA-sponsored American Comeback Tour. At the time of Kirk’s death, his annual salary at Turning Point USA was estimated to be “more than US$407,000.” Wikipedia
