US Drops Drug Charges Against Mexican General

On Tuesday the United States announced they were dropping charges against a Mexican General (CBS News). The General had been identified as “El Padrino,” the leader of a drug cartel (Blog). He used his position as one of the key Government officials in their war on narcotics gangs to ensure the success of his entrepreneurial endeavor.

His name is General Salvador Cienfuegos. He was arrested in October for taking bribes from a drug cartel by the US while on a stopover at LAX. Attorney General William Barr has reportedly made a deal with the Mexican government to drop the charges and transfer him to their custody. The judge agreed to the deal upon review of the arrangement.
