Religious Freedom and Flynn

Former US Army Lt General Micheal Flynn is taking some heat for saying the United States should have “one religion under God…”(The Hill). Hopefully he’s not referring to the one obsessed with little boys foreskins and murdering everyone’s firstborn. There are several guys running around pretending to be god in the Tanakh.

If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must, we have to have one religion” – Micheal Flynn

Flynn, who served the shortest term ever as National Security Advisor, is still very loyal to the Big T (Donald Trump) the man who fired him. He made his comments while addressing the organization called “American Faith” in San Antonio TX. Flynn has also come under fire for suggesting the US should have a Myanmar style military coup (The Hill).

The United States was based on the enlightenment ideals of people who had come to this continent to escape various forms of tyranny in Europe; Royalty, the Church of England and the Catholic Church are some examples. The freedom to practice the religion of one’s choice is fundamental to our way of life and our belief system. Our nation has done quite well with it and there’s no reason to change it.

For the edification of Mr Flynn and our readers here is the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” – U.S. Bill of Rights, 1st Amendment
