Former president who won’t go away Donald Trump made a statement that seemed to encourage Russia or other enemies to attack NATO nations he didn’t think carried their financial weight. He stated he would not employ US assistance to a member state that got attacked if it hadn’t paid its NATO dues (Politico). Trump has made an issue against assisting Ukraine despite the vested interest of the US’s NATO allies.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Q Brown, was interviewed by NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt. Holt asked the General to comment on Donald Trump’s statements about Ukraine.
“I think we have a responsibility to uphold those alliances,” Brown told NBC’s Lester Holt in an interview airing Monday evening. “US credibility is at stake with each of our alliances, and US leadership is still needed, wanted, and watched.” (CNN)

The credibility of the United States and NATO are at stake. The US has enjoyed support from NATO states during both of the Iraq Wars and the War in Afghanistan. The alliance guarantees self governance to member states by presenting a unified front against aggression. Trump’s flag waving and pronouncements of patriotism should be recognized as demagoguery to hide the truth. He and his masters want to dismantle NATO just as they have been using their influence for decades to help China and Russia.
