Populist demagogue Bezazel Smotrich of Israel’s Otzma Yehudit party has again opened his mouth; creating more controversy with his far right statements. He and other members of his party formed an alliance with Likud party to get Netanyahu the position of Prime Minister. Otzma Yehudit party members got the rest of the ministerial posts. Itamar Ben-G’vir the minister of National Security and leader of Otzma Yehudit is the guy who dropped the ball when given Egyptian intelligence.
Israel’s Far-right Finance Minister (Smotrich) Says He’s ‘A Fascist Homophobe’ but ‘Won’t Stone Gays’ Haaretz. He probably went home and giggled to himself about that one.
These two men have issued repeatedly issued unnecessarily antagonistic statements. Both have been arrested by the Israeli government for past political activities. Smotrich’s recent statement referred to the intentional starving of Palestinian civilians.
“’We can’t, in the current global reality, manage a war. Nobody will let us cause 2 million civilians to die of hunger, even though it might be justified and moral until our hostages are returned,’ he (Smotrich) said at a conference on Monday.” (Jerusalem Post)
Was it necessary to say that? Intentional starvation of civilians is not justified or moral. That’s why it’s illegal and why armies should allow civilians a way to leave battle zones. Smotrich isn’t stupid; he knew this would hurt Israeli diplomacy. Who’s he really taking his orders from?
