Above, Phil trying to be even trickier.
The book of Genesis is full of subtleties; clues to events of the past so we may recognize them in the future. Event the people who play god repeat their past life patterns. Why did Yhwh destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah? The standard answer is they were people who committed anal rape and had anal sex. The word sodomy is used to describe anal sex and is based on the city of Sodom. Consider the following verse from the Tanakh, rewritten in future texts
1Samuel 5:6 And the hand of Yhwh became heavy upon the Ashdodites, and He ravaged them, and He smote them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and its borders.
Yhwh raped the Ashodites anally. The reason for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is probably not committing anal sex. Let’s see what the Tanakh has to say about this. The story gets going in Genesis 18.
Genesis 18:1 Now Yhwh appeared to him (Abraham) in the plains of Mamre, and he was sitting at the entrance of the tent when the day was hot. 2 And he lifted his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing beside him, and he saw and he ran toward them from the entrance of the tent, and he prostrated himself to the ground 3 And he said, “My lords, if only I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass on from beside your servant 4 Please let a little water be taken, and bathe your feet, and recline under the tree 5 And I will take a morsel of bread, and sustain your hearts; after[wards] you shall pass on, because you have passed by your servant.” And they said, “So shall you do, as you have spoken.” 8 And he took cream and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and he placed [them] before them, and he was standing over them under the tree, and they ate.
Yhwh sends three men to Abraham who makes them a meal that isn’t kosher and they eat it. The story then talks about Sarah not being able to have a child and a promise that she will. Yhwh makes another promise to Abraham, repeated from chapter 12.
Genesis 18:18 And Abraham will become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the world will be blessed in him
He then sets his sights on eliminating the competition.
Genesis 18:20 And the Lord said, “Since the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah has become great, and since their sin has become very grave 21 I will descend now and see, whether according to her cry, which has come to Me, they have done; [I will wreak] destruction [upon them]; and if not, I will know.
Following is the Hebrew followed by a literal translation of these two verses.
Genesis 18:20 And said Yhwh cry (of) Sodom and Gomorrah for great and sinned for heavy very 21 Arda-please and see village her cries have come to (me, us) have done bride and if not information.
Who was Arda? Who is the bride mentioned in the text? Was some woman being attacked or raped at night?
The non kosher men of Yhwh then set off for Sodom
Genesis 18:22 And the men turned from there and went to Sodom, and Abraham was still standing before Yhwh.
Yhwh and Abraham spend the rest of the chapter making sure Abraham will not take the blame for what will happen to Sodom and Gomorrah. One of them has to look like a good guy if they are going to influence people for eternity.
Genesis 19:1 And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom, and Lot saw and arose toward them, and he prostrated himself on his face to the ground. 2 And he said, “Behold now my lords, please turn to your servant’s house and stay overnight and wash your feet, and you shall arise early and go on your way.” And they said, “No, but we will stay overnight in the street.” 3 And he urged them strongly, and they turned in to him, and came into his house, and he made them a feast, and he baked unleavened cakes, and they ate.
It’s interesting to note the first verse of chapter 19 that details the arrival of angels who come to see Lot. Lot prepares a kosher meal for them, in contrast to the meal prepared by Abraham for the men from Yhwh, and they also eat it.
