Polarity in a nation weakens the people’s ability to affect politics. This is because people grasp on to the “side” they believe best represents them. The average person my not agree with all the philosophies (or “planks” in politics) of the group they migrate to. Over time their minds will conform to those planks they initially didn’t agree with. This is a psychological mechanism that prevents them from being ostracized by the group they chose to belong to. Humans are troop animals. These, the bulk of people, have submitted their will to the leaders of their respective groups.
The leaders of these political societies are in complete control of their followers. Those who may not agree with a part of the belief system will not vocalize dissent. If the leaders of the opposing societal groups are working together, or guided by others who are, complete control of society is achieved.
This manufactured polarity can be made more extreme. The wider the division the more potential exists for civil violence or uprising. Violent uprisings can be used to create a dictatorship. The method is to feed the groups more extremely opposing views; increase their anger toward each other- making them irreconcilable. People will manifest acts just to piss off the other side, creating a downward spiral.
In short, use a different line of bullshit for each group to be controlled. It is necessary in these narratives there is a flaw that is obviously illogical. If someone grasps this flaw the self programming or fear based silence (whichever applies from above) didn’t work. They will reveal themselves and can be weeded out.
It’s easy to see this while observing a different society from outside. It’s more difficult to detect from within the society being manipulated. Does the fish in the fishbowl know he lives in a fishbowl? Do people realize they are being fed lines of bs? A leftist might readily recognize the lies being fed to the right. A right winger may see the lies being fed to the left. Neither side will be likely to see the lies they are being fed. This is because they each believe they are too intelligent to be deceived.
What about a lie being fed to both sides, where there is agreement? In our society the only example is between the far right and the far left. These are anti Semitism, Marxism and destruction of democracy.
