Since the beginning of the Russo-Ukraine War Russian President for Life Vlad Putin‘s forces have been capturing Ukrainian children. Some of these children have recently appeared in an online catalogue hosted by the education department of the Russian occupation authorities in Luhansk region. These children are up for adoption by Russian families. Mykola Kuleba, CEO of the Save Ukraine organization commented…

“Some parents were killed by Russian occupation forces, while others had their children’s documents altered to legitimize their abduction.” Kuleba further explained that children from Russian-occupied territories since 2014, including Crimea and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk, have been “systematically deported” and placed in Russian families across Moscow and other regions United24Media

The children are advertised for their character traits, with some described as “obedient” or “calm”. In numerous cases, the children are described as “polite and respectful towards the adults”, “disciplined” and “not conflictive” or “can be relied on to execute tasks”(Euronews).

Ukraine has documented over 19,500 child abduction cases since Russia’s full-scale war started. Official figures from Bring Kids Back UA say that only around 1,366 children had been returned to Ukrainian-controlled areas as of July 2025.

Reports reveal that many of these children face dire circumstances: they are placed for adoption, sent to “recreation camps,” military schools, orphanages, or even psychiatric institutions. Vulnerable and already facing the challenges of growing up amid war, older children are systematically trained to fight against their own homeland. United24Media
