We have been discussing the press and it’s freedom, or lack thereof. One strategy we pointed out is the press dictates people’s focus. This is done by printing multiple stories on topics they want people to focus on and publishing very few on topics they don’t want us to focus on. It is the same strategy of the TV news. This isn’t censorship strictly speaking, it’s diversion.

In yesterday’s post we talked about Donald Trump‘s constant accusations against the veracity of the 2020 elections. Trump soundly lost that election to Joe Biden. Trump’s false claims are to divert from the suspicious 2016 elections when he beat Hillary Clinton with the electoral college but lost the popular vote by 3 million. The idea is if Trump keeps sounding off false claims that the 2020 elections were rigged people will never want to hear anyone questioning elections again. This would give his man gods a free hand in the future.
Now let’s consider Donald Trump’s favorite phrase; “Fake News!” During his first term Trump used the term over 2,000 times (The Independent). Trump banned CNN, MSNow, and Politico from White House press conferences claiming they publish “fake news” (Media Ite). Trump even uses the White House website to make accusations against news outlets (Whitehouse.gov).
Let’s think about this. The 11 posts above are about the history of censorship, and collusion of the press with the establishment, in Western Civilization. Many of the examples in those posts show collusion with the right wing and Donald Trump. The mainstream press has avoided stories that could embarrass Trump or demonstrate his shielding of criminals. Even Trump’s good buddy Vlad Putin has benefited from press diversions; more than once.
Trump constantly shoots his mouth off about “fake news” because his masters want to continue using the press to manipulate public opinion. Trump is not popular and they know it. This doesn’t make him less useful; just useful in a different way. No one wants to be critical of the press because of Trump.
“(Walter) Lippman argues that, when properly deployed in the public interest, the manufacture of consent is useful and necessary for a democratic society, because, in many cases, “the common interests” of the public are not obvious except upon careful analysis of the collected data, a critical intellectual exercise in which most people are uninterested or are incapable of doing” Wikipedia
