Former FBI special agent Michael German has published a report on the infiltration of police by white supremacists since 2000. He concludes that US law enforcement officials have been tied to militant groups in more than a dozen states, and hundreds of police officers have been caught posting racist and bigoted social media content.
The report (Brennan Center for Justice) notes that “FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) narrowly thwarted attempts by neo-Nazis to manufacture radiological “dirty” bombs in Maine in 2009 and Florida in 2017 show(s) their dangerous capability and intent to unleash mass destruction.”
The report also notes the danger of officers affiliated with white supremacist groups to gain intelligence on law enforcement activities. In 2018 police in Sacramento ( the Guardian) helped white supremacists by attempting to charge antifa members who where beaten and stabbed while counter demonstrating at a neo-Nazi rally. No charges where filed for the knife attacks by neo-Nazis affiliated with the rally.
Law enforcement officers identified as members of these groups seriously undermines the public faith in police in a time of increasingly low approval. The calls for de-funding of police agencies is given more credibility because of this threat. Continued racial profiling and acts of violence and murder by police officers threatens to undermine our way of life.
