Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan socialist dictator Muammar Gaddafi, has announced his bid to run for elections (Washington Post). Good luck. Muammar was ousted during the Arab Spring uprising in 2011, hunted down and executed by an angry Libyan mob.
Libya has been run by an interim government with UN backing since then. Elections are scheduled for December 24th.
In other Libyan news, everybody’s favorite contractor Erik Prince is under investigation by the UN for assisting Khalifa Hafter in a failed attempt to take over the country (The Intercept). His rogue forces assaulted Tripoli in 2019. Haftar is aligned with Salafi Jihadists and the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jimahiriya. An indictment against Prince has yet to be returned.
Prince is also being investigated by the UN for his role in the Chinese re-education camps in Xinjiang Province.
