The death of Princess Diana could have had some interesting consequences for the succession of the British Crown. Exploring this event will give us an interesting perspective.
Princess Diana was the ex-wife of Prince Charles. Charles is the heir apparent to the British throne. The two went through a scandalous divorce, each having had extra marital affairs. A year later (1997) Diana was in a car accident in Paris. Her driver was fleeing a paparazzi photographer on a motorcycle. Diana, her companion Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul were all killed.
According to the old primogeniture of the Crown, if Charles’ affair and/or speculation about his having been involved in the death of his ex wife were severe enough Parliament could have removed him from the line of succession. If that were the case it is possible Prince William and Prince Harry, his sons, may have also been removed. Princess Anne was 13th in line for the throne. The heir apparent would be Prince Andrew.
Today we are all familiar with the friendship between Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein. In 2020 Andrew gave up his royal duties because of the scandal. According to Alastair Watson, Andrew’s former personal secretary, their friendship dates to the early 1990s (The Guardian). In 1997 no one had heard much about Epstein.
I’m not suggesting Andrew or Epstein had anything to do with the death of Princess DIana. It is doubtful either one of them could have handled the paparazzi to the car while the other affected Paul’s driving enough to cause him to wreck. Whoever handled Epstein had privy to any dirt collected on VIPs that had befriended him. In effect the handler would have dirt on the new heir apparent. Fortunately, in our more enlightened age, parliament didn’t find it necessary to take action against Prince Charles.
