Everybody’s favorite contractor Erik Prince of Blackwater fame is back in the news. He has rebranded again, this time his company is called Vectus Global. Prince has been hired by the Haitian government to help with the current gang crisis and will provide 200 men (CBC).
Romain Le Cour Grandmaison, head of Haiti Observatory at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, said the operations would violate U.S. law unless the U.S.-based private military company had permission from the U.S. government to work in Haiti. (CBC)
Not a problem! Prince has been a solid donor to US President for Life hopeful Donald Trump for years. He also likes to spy on teachers.
Back in 2021 according to Reuters Prince was accused by the United Nations “at the very least” of helping smugglers evading an arms embargo of Libya. A spokesperson for the well to do military contractor has denied the allegations
Libya was in a constant state of strife since the Arab Spring revolution that ousted the dictator Muammar Gadaffi. The international community recognized the newly formed government in the western part of the country. That government was under attack from the forces of a warlord named Khalifa Haftar. Prince was accused by the UN of providing material support to Haftar’s militia. Haftar is backed by Russian President for Life Vladimir Putin. He promised and delivered a port for the Russian Navy to use in Libya.
Prince has operations in Dubai and Africa. In Hong Kong Prince’s men were training Chinese soldiers employed in the concentration camps in Xinjiang Province; re educating Uighurs to be good Communists (Vox). His company then was called Frontier Services Group. It is now owned by the PRC. See this previous Post.
