Secretary of Defense err… War Pete Hegseth announced to the world that Kurd dissidents from northern Iran were standing by to assist the US effort in Iran (AP News). Why he felt the need to tell the whole fricken world this information is beyond me. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard will be expecting them.

Bashir al-Assad, Recep Erdogan, Saddam Hussein, Ruholla Khomeini, Ali Hosseini Khamenei, and Ahmed al-Sharaa have all been out to screw the Kurds. They all have something in common with Hegseth and Donald Trump; they follow the same man gods.

Kurd forces, although valiant, can not take on the 1M strong Iranian Revolutionary Guard and reserves by themselves. With US air support, resupply and medical support they could be effective. This would require embedded US special forces to coordinate with US air power. Urban fighting (in cities) would be a death sentence for outnumbered Kurd forces. Being over extended; isolated, without backup or with vulnerable flanks could be extremely dangerous. We wouldn’t want Peshmurga forces to get caught in a trap.

Another potential problem for the Kurds would be if the US suddenly decides to pull out of the fight. This would leave them abandoned and the Revolutionary Guard and Iranian regime intact.
